The Long Island School of Tai-chi-Cuan was established in 1975 and has taught thousands of students. We teach in the old, traditional way, including Qigong, Yang and Chen style forms, animal and weapons forms, traditional push hands, sparring and the philosophy behind this ancient Chinese system of health, healing and self defense.
Bob Klein studied Tai Chi with Grandmaster William C. C. Chen in the 1970's and 1980's and later with other teachers. He was a zoologist for 20 years, studying animal behavior and worked with hundreds of species. This prepared him for learning Tai Chi, which is based on animal behavior. He is the author of three Tai Chi books and over 40 instructional DVDs. Mr. Klein was one of the original teachers at the Tai Chi Farm and the Tai Chi Park (a large yearly gathering of Tai Chi teachers) since 1984.
We provide private (one-on-one) classes at our location on Long Island, N. Y. (and online), as well as group classes online and at other locations, such as libraries, senior living communities and nursing homes (where we teach a seated system of Tai Chi and Qigong). All levels of students are welcome. We are used to working with people who have limited ability due to injuries, age, etc.
Tai Chi is an ancient Chinese system of Health Exercises to increase flexibility, improve breathing, promote balance and coordination, strengthen the immune system, normalize blood pressure and eliminate aches and pains. These exercises are the beginning training of Tai Chi as self defense ("Tai-chi-Chuan"). We teach the full range of training.
